GFD will get a new dispatch console

The Greenland Women’s Club recently presented the Greenland Fire Department with a check for $835.44 toward the purchase of a new dispatch console. The piece of equipment will allow for better and more seamless communication between and among other emergency response entities and with Rockingham County Dispatch, where emergency calls are routed during off-peak hours. The Greenland Women’s Club raised the funds during their annual Craft Fair and Pie Festival, which was held on November 20. Each year the Club offers Shopping Bags for Fair attendees, and accepts donations for a designated cause, which is decided upon by the Club membership. When Club members became aware that the Fire Department and the Firemen’s Auxiliary were raising funds for the new dispatch console, they decided to donate the proceeds to this cause. According to Karen Anderson, Greenland Town Administrator, the new dispatch console will cost about $5,600. The Firemen’s Auxiliary, through bake sales and other fundraising activities, has raised about $2,200. With the additional money donated by the Greenland Women’s Club, more than half of the funds necessary have been raised. The money will be held in escrow by the Town until the total funds are available to purchase the new dispatch console. Submitted by Barbara Fleming, Club Treasurergwc-fd-dispatch-console
